Speaking Against Discrimination

There’s a U.S. Marine, Steven Gern, claiming that he had a conversation with Iraqi locals asking them: “Being American, if I were to go in town would I be welcome, what would happen?” He says their answer is this: “Absolutely not, the locals would snatch up, torture and kill you within an hour.” He goes on to say that this is the local populous opinion (not affiliated with ISIS or other terrorist groups) and basically implies that we should agree with D. tRUMP and not let anyone into America. “If I can’t be in their town, why should they be in “my” country?” (Keep in mind this person was having a conversation with him - NOT immediately torturing and killing him.) Here’s the video:

With all due respect, to generalize a population based off the actions of supremacists is to see the world with nothing but fearful narrow mindedness.

That’s like saying a local community in the USA that is known for being racist, KKK affiliated or violent white supremacists (or even “Christian”) represents all Americans as a whole. It’s like saying that just because a local populous would torture or kill people because they’re not white means that every single American is exactly the same and that no one else should treat us as respectable human beings.

Well guess what, not everyone is the same. Not everyone feels the same way as their neighbors. Not even all family members have the same beliefs. I know, shocking! You can’t persecute an entire culture based on a majority of people. Terrorism and racism aren’t born from race, heritage, culture or religion. They’re born through the personal beliefs and opinions of people. They’re born through complete fear and false education. Again I state, because it can’t be said enough, not every single person has the same mind set. For example, I have a complete different view on matters than one of my brothers, than one of my aunts, of an ex husband, etc. I live in a place where I’m practically surrounded by neighbors who supported D. tRUMP. Does that make me someone who is exactly like them? No. I’ve never once supported D. tRUMP. Even long before this entire presidential fiasco. Does that make every one of those neighbors who voted for D. tRUMP exactly the same? No, while some of them may praise what’s happening in OUR country, some of them are regretting their decision to vote in a lunatic as the POTUS.

Yes, I agree that we should vet. I agree that we should make sure no one has a serious criminal record. (In all disclosure, I have a record myself, though it isn’t remotely serious.) But don’t deny someone based on their country of origin, religion or race or their opinion of 1 certain person (*cough tRUMP* a lot of people don’t like you). Don’t try to force them to convert to a religion (Christianity) they don’t want. Thankfully it has already been announced that D. tRUMPs plan has been blocked.

My dad served in the military, U.S. Army, for 23 years. He was deployed 6 times in support of the war on terrorism. He’s a proud African-American. He’s a proud American. He’s spent his entire adult life protecting, not only our country, but also the innocent people in war torn, state sponsored terrorist countries. Even after retirement, he’s working hard to secure our protection by working in the security field. He’s educating himself through countless hours of homeland security and terrorism/counter-terrorism courses. He also teaches security and firearms safety courses. Does he have a fear of cultures different than his own? No. Does he feel it’s right to persecute people based solely on their origins? No. Does he believe the first thing he hears about a general population? No, he educates himself with the truth first and foremost before making his own judgments. He believes in humanity. He believes in justice. He believes in freedom.

By the way, can the people who say this stop telling the people who weren’t born in America to “get out of my country”? Have more respect. This isn’t your country. This is OUR country!

American history is filled with persecution of races and religions. (Native Americans, Africans-African Americans, Italians, Japanese, Germans, Jews... ) Don’t claim it hasn’t happened, because it has and it still is. Don't believe it? Here's just ONE example, explained by George Takei:

But also, the United States of America and it’s history would not exist today if it weren’t for all of these cultures coming together. Coming together to make a new land based on freedom, justice, opportunity, equality and hope. The first pilgrims came because they wanted the freedom to practice the religion of their choice. Why should we deny that to anyone else? Why should we deny the chance of a better life, of a better future to those who are looking to escape the terror they were born into?

Every single one of us are products of immigrant ancestors. I for one, thought that my bloodline consisted of only Italy, Africa and UK regions. But you know what, I took a DNA test from Ancestry.com. You know what I found? (Because I honestly don’t want to type it all) Here’s a photo of my results:

Would you have guessed that based on my skin? Probably not. You also probably wouldn’t have guessed (based on my results) that I have two brothers from Guam. I’d bet that most of you would have traces of DNA from the countries you’re biased against.

So please, don’t discriminate against any persons roots. Only judge them by their individual actions.
